Mount Austin: Buyer’s Area Guide

Short answer: Mount Austin is an established residential and retail area in eastern Johor Bahru, next to Tebrau. It suits local families and owner-occupiers who drive. It is generally further from the Singapore border than the city centre, and traffic on the corridor is a common complaint. Most of what matters for buyers is covered in our Tebrau and Mount Austin guide.

What to know

• Same corridor as Tebrau. Mount Austin and Tebrau share the same roads, malls and traffic. The Tebrau guide covers the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL), Toppen, flood history and supply in one place.
• Driving time. Journey estimates from Mount Austin to CIQ are around 18 minutes in light traffic (a route-planner estimate), and much longer at peak. Test it at the time you would travel.
• No RTS station here. The RTS Link terminus is at Bukit Chagar in the city centre.
• Foreign buyers. State approval, price floors and the Johor state levy apply. Read the foreign buyer guide and the costs checklist.

FAQ

Is Mount Austin a good area to buy?

It depends on your use. For owner-occupiers who drive, it has established amenities. For investment, check real rents and how many similar units are on the market nearby before estimating returns.

How is it different from Tebrau?

They are neighbouring areas on the same corridor, so most checks are the same. See the Tebrau guide.
